How does the Clinic Operate?

The Law Clinic is part of the University of Strathclyde Law School. It was established and is overseen by Professor Donald Nicolson, who has extensive experience in law clinic work, both as a student advisor and founder of the University of Bristol Law Clinic. Working closely with the Director are two solicitors, who work part-time as case supervisors: Kate Laverty and Annabell Fowles (who is also responsible for fund-raising).

The day to day running of the Clinic is in the hands of its Student Director, and an Executive Committee of student volunteers, who are responsible for matters such as recruitment, training, IT, publicity, clinic development and external relations. The Law Clinic also has an Advisory Committee consisting of elected student advisors who take the lead in long-term policy making and ensuring that the Law Clinic continues to meet its objectives.

Finally, a Management Committee made up by members of the University, legal profession and Glasgow community provides guidance to the committees.

The Law Clinic is funded by a mixture of University and outside organisations. In the University, the Law Clinic receives funding from the Law School, the Graduate Association, the Alumni Association and is currently in receipt of a grant by the University's Knowledge Exchange Fund. It also receives funding from the law firm DLA Piper.

The Law Clinic is insured through Advice UK.
